This image presented challenges in the planning stage. It is a picture of the two things that give me the most trouble...background, and stars. I was enthusiastic, but not hopefull. Conditions were poor, but I collected several hundred subs in each channel and was able to find about 2 hours for each channel that had FWHM less than 2.8--not to bad for my sky. I decided to try and see if I could pick up the faint Ha signal that permeates the region. 5-6 hours of Ha shows up a little--and there is a slight reddish cast to the background in places--but its faint and probably not relevant to the image. Maybe if I collect a lot more Ha I could get it to show up better. Finally, I binned the image in software to hide some star irregularities. I will try to reprocess and see if I can fix those so I can post a Bin1 image.

I can't decide if I prefer the Ha or the non Ha image--Version M is the final Ha imag and Version N is the final non Ha image....I like the idea of Ha, and I think its a goot look, but it seems the depth of the non Ha is much btter--clearer into the deeps of space. Not sure. Opinios welcomed...what do you think?

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
